“Contractors have worked the last four months to remove debris from neighborhoods and roadway,” said Lt. Col. Andrew Yoder, Recovery Field Office Commander. “The last pass marks a transition to the next phase of recovery. In the coming weeks, we expect to set dates for additional last passes in the other 50 municipalities our contractors are working in.”
FEMA approved the debris removal mission in October 2017, and Hormigueros was the first municipality where the debris collection was completed on January 4.
The total debris estimated for removal in Puerto Rico is 6.2 million cubic yards, of which 3.9 million cubic yards is tasked to the Corps of Engineers, with the remainder to be collected by the Commonwealth and local municipalities.
