Brigadier General Zachary L. Miller graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) and was commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1997, he served in numerous command and staff positions in the United States and the Middle East and currently serves as the commander of the South Atlantic Division.

The Division is one of eight regional offices of USACE overseeing military and water-resources design, construction, and operation in the eight states in the Southeast, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The division has six districts located in Wilmington, N.C.; Charleston, S.C.; Savannah, Ga.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Mobile, Ala.; and Puerto Rico

He has commanded the Army's Joint Modernization Command, headquartered at Fort Bliss, Texas, since June 2023.

Brig. Gen. Miller's prior command assignments include a combat engineer company in the First Cavalry Division, the 21st Engineer Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division, 5th Battalion, 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade, the Memphis District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the 3rd Security Force Assistance Brigade. Additionally, he has had multiple deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and across the broader Middle East.

 

Brig. Gen. Miller’s key staff assignments include S3 for the 20th Engineer Brigade, Executive Officer for the 27th Engineer Battalion, J5 planner for US Forces-Iraq, HQDA G-3/5/7 Strategist at the Pentagon, and staff officer for 8th Army in the Republic of Korea. His initial assignment was in the 92nd Engineer Battalion where he served as Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and Battalion Construction Officer.


Brig. Gen. Miller’s military awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraq and Afghan Campaign Medals, Korea Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NATO Service Medal, Army Staff Identification Badge, Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
