Seaplane marine debris management site

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - Disposal of marine debris, defined as vessels that were damaged or destroyed from hurricanes Irma and Maria and abandoned, is an interagency effort, bringing in the expertise of the U.S. Coast Guard, Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. On St. Croix, an open field adjacent to the seaplane terminal will serve as the debris management site to break down the vessels before final disposal. Hurricanes Irma and Maria left more than 1 million cubic yards of debris in the U.S. Virgin Islands, including an estimated 400 marine vessels.
