The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District began construction in October 2011 on a new $35.7 million headquarters for the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C., shown here under construction. The work is being performed by prime contractor Sauer Inc., of Jacksonville, Fla. At 143,090 square-feet, the facility will accommodate 540 soldiers and support staff. The headquarters project has been nicknamed “mini-FORSCOM” because of its similarities to a large-scale, $304 million headquarters the Corps finished last year on Fort Bragg for the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) and U.S. Army Reserve Command.
